All interior walls and ceilings we’ll need at least some preparation
All interior walls and ceilings we’ll need at least some preparation before we get on to the really exciting bit of bringing your color scheme to life, it’s worth spending a bit of extra time and care over this as it gives a much more professional finish, and your Painting and decorating will last much longer.
Newly plastered walls
The newly plastered wall is probably the easiest surface to paint onto you. We just need to prime them with a diluted paint first to create the best surface. Allow all new plaster to dry out completely before decorating. You can tell when it’s dry when any really dark patches shrink away, or it turns this light, pink or grey colour.
The topcoat of paint can adhere to it much better by using this method. If you don’t, prime the plaster first, the plaster will soak up paint like a sponge so you will waste a lot and end up doing more coats than necessary.
Walls that have already been painted
Walls that have already been painted are fairly easy to prepare for new paint, but it’s worth doing a few things first.
- fill the cracks
- fill the holes
- wash the area down
- remove grease
- stain block crayon
